The pub closed
in Silver Jubilee year 1935 with the opening of the Jubilee Inn
on Appleton/Hatton Hill Roads. The Hen and Chickens finished its
days being used as a 'Lab' for the Liverpool Tannery that stood
opposite the pub. The original entrance
to the Jubilee Inn was on the Field Lane side with the decorative
door entrance lintel still visible depicting a 'Hen and Chickens'.
(Dave Ellison took photos of the old entrance) Having
the 'Hen & Chickens' on the entrance would suggest the intended
name of the new pub was the 'Hen & Chickens' but changed
the name because of it being Silver Jubliee Year. |
