Hornby Boulevard c1915-1918
| Image shows soldiers from Litherland Camp (Royal
Welsh Fusiliers), keeping back evacuated residents and onlookers,
after an explosion in the Match Works. The Match Works produced
some form of munitions during the Great War and had a permanent
military guard for security reasons. An earlier explosion occurred
in 1903 causing damage to shops on Linacre Road, of which an
image appears on Litherland
